It all started with a trip to the grocery store.
A few years ago, I was working in a corporate job and I was getting ready to go on a business trip. I had been warned: this conference is busy, I will be working 12 hour days, and I will be able to take breaks when there was time to step away. My first thought? Well, snacks (obviously) 😂
So I headed to the grocery store to grab something *real quick* before I ran a bunch of other errands I had to get done the day before the trip. 🏃♀️ I went directly to the energy bar aisle to look for something clean, something without extra additives, something that wouldn't taste like cardboard.
I must have walked up and down that aisle 5 times before giving up. I left, frustrated, without buying anything. I went home, rushing to get everything done. I opened my pantry, grabbed a few things that I thought would taste good in an energy bar, threw them in a pan + hoped for the best🤞
The result was an energy bar that tasted WAY better than anything I'd tried before.
A couple of my colleagues tried them - loved them - and I was hooked. Three months later I walked away from my corporate lifestyle to became an entrepreneur.
The only problem? I had never worked in the food industry 😯 I had to teach myself every single thing there was to know from scratch. I started with a farmer's market booth, selling every baked good you can imagine: doughnuts, cookies, brownies - all gluten free, dairy free, and clean - including my energy bars. My week days were spent baking in my tiny little kitchen + learning how to start a business and my weekends were spent at the farmer's market.
Soon, I realized that our customers loved our energy bars. They would come to our farmer's market booth & buy dozens at a time. They started asking where else they could buy them.
In January 2018, I decided to start selling Boho Bars in retail stores and the brand took on a life of it's own. People were clearing the shelves of our bars and we could barely keep up with the demand 🥳 We moved to a larger production facility, hired more staff, and worked out distribution.
What started as a handful of local retailers, has grown into a bustling energy bar company, supplying over 300 retailers across 4 provinces and expanding. Although we have since closed our farmer's market booth, it will always be Boho's first home 💕
Through all of the expansion and changes, we have always stuck to what is important to us: a completely clean energy bar that is made with only real food ingredients and tastes incredible.
The only ingredients you will ever find in Boho Bars are ingredients you would find in your pantry. We use gluten free oats as our base, a nut or a seed butter as the protein source, honey or maple syrup as a sweetener, and other delicious real food ingredients like nuts, dried fruit + seeds 🌱 What you won't ever find is any artificial additives, colours, flavours, isolate protein powders, or refined sugar.
Just real food that tastes great.
